SOTM 23: Middle School Science

Matthew 5:33-37

33"Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.' 34But I tell you, Do not swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; 35or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.

I think many of us didn't fully pay attention in our middle school science class. Copernicus said that the earth revolves around the sun, he didn't say it revolves around me. There is an important benchmark of human development that used to be reached around the age of 1 or 2 and now for many of us never really happens. We still think that if we can't see something it doesn't exist. If I can't make it to the wedding, the wedding doesn't really take place. So it doesn't matter that I volunteered to pick up the tuxes. Maybe we need to retake middle school science.
